The upcoming WWE Summerslam 2025 is set to feature a total of 12 matches over two nights, with nine of those being championship contests. This marks the inaugural two-night format for this major WWE event, promising an even grander spectacle than in previous years. Among the participants, AJ Styles is expected to make a significant appearance, potentially marking his last match at Summerslam.
AJ Styles has been contemplating retirement for some time, and he aims to make a memorable impact during this event. During the kickoff show for WWE Summerslam 2025, he shared with Michael Cole that this could be his final appearance at this prestigious event.
“To be honest, this might be my last SummerSlam. I intend to give it my all one last time for you all. This event holds great significance for me,” Styles expressed, reflecting on the importance of Summerslam in his career. “The match against John Cena was pivotal for my journey in WWE, making Summerslam particularly special.”
Last year, WWE incorporated Styles' retirement into a storyline when he faced Cody Rhodes for the WWE Championship. After a hiatus from the ring, Styles returned to Raw, setting his sights on Dominik Mysterio’s Intercontinental Title at Summerslam 2025. He also noted that his victory over John Cena in 2016 during this event significantly advanced his WWE career.
Following Wrestlemania 41, Styles has been actively pursuing the Intercontinental Championship on Raw, while Mysterio claimed he was not medically cleared to compete. However, on the July 21 episode of Raw, Adam Pearce mandated a medical evaluation for Mysterio, leading to Styles receiving a title shot at Summerslam 2025.
